Happy New Year to You!!
I hope that you were able to ring in 2024 with some joy and celebration! I know not everyone was in the place where that could happen for them. I was, fortunately, and had my brother here to help! It was a good time listening to live music, dancing and being in community with others all celebrating the same thing. It added to the momentum.
Speaking of momentum, I will be meeting with a potential producer of my next record sometime soon!! I have been working on my short list of songs and trying to pin down my overall intended vibe. When I sent her my demo recordings of several songs one of her comments was that she could really tell I love where I live, that the geography comes through. I sent her this picture of Ladrone Peak.
My sister, niece and my dad and I drove all the way around this mountain in mid December on a cloudy day. I have been in awe of it for the last 29 years and only recently figured out there is a drivable path all the way around (part of which includes the interstate but still a path!). It was a good reminder that I need to look at things from many angles to get clear on what it is I am seeing.
I have been doing that very thing but looking internally. Trying to see from all angles what my goals and intentions are for myself this year. I do know that I don’t want to rush things and that I want to honor the part of me that needs my own loving attention. I’ve been trying to listen to her more. That part. She wants to be checked in with. To know that I am not just responding to others’ needs/wants/desires unless and until they align with my own. Just typing these words causes a nice exhale and the dropping of shoulders. Yaasss, she says…more of that, please!
She is also leading me towards love, towards opening my heart to the potential of love. And that feels scary and exciting. I feel like I capture that array of emotion in my song: Love Is A Mango. It was the 2nd song I wrote on my Jackson electric that I am calling Miss Jackson because I am not that inventive with my instrument names but can’t quite help naming them!!
I will share the full lyrics of the song and if you would like to hear more about what went in to the making of this juicy and sweet song and as it unfolds, a whole lot more about the making of my next record, and maybe even a little about opening my heart to love, please consider a paid subscription (or even just a share) today!
I am so very grateful to all of my new *Sunflower Seeds* that have joined me to support my art and my heart!! It means the absolute world to me. Love Is A Mango (11/23)
love is a mango, love is a mango
juicy and sweet, tender yellow treat
compels me to eat, oh, love is a mango
love is a mango, whoa-whoa-oh
love is a tango, love is a tango
the beat of the trance, entwined in a dance
willing to take the chance, oh, love is a tango
love is a tango, whoa-whoa-oh
love is insane, go all the way in, go
in to the deep end, loves going to win when
roses and kisses swim, love is insane oh
love is insane, oh, whoa-whoa-oh
love is a mango, love is a mango
juicy and sweet, tender yellow treat
compels me to eat, oh, love is a mango
love is a mango, love is a mango
whoa-whoa-whoa
