Well, hey! How are ya?
Thanks for being here. It’s about to be the spring equinox and the official changing of the season although in many ways it feels like it has been springing along for a while already. Even though all the surrounding mountains just got snow dumped on them and are astonishingly beautiful while last week I was soaking in the sun dreaming of summer, today I’m wearing a jacket and dodging raindrops. That has got to mean spring is here!
The quail are very happy that the days are getting longer and that rain has fallen in March. That’s kinda crazy for the desert. It’s usually the wind that patters us with pollen and dust that we are used to but the quail seem totally enthusiastic about the whole thing. I feed them and love to watch them squibble and squabble in the backyard. That is my definition of bird watching.
I’m going bird watching with a group of women next month. I’ve never officially gone bird watching. I just like to watch birds. I know there is a difference but I thought it would be fun to be with other women that like to watch birds too and do it together. If some of them actually know the names of the birds we see, that will be fun too. I likely won’t remember them and I won’t care and that is perfectly fine.
I’m also going hiking soon and going dancing next month and it feels like a time of new beginnings. In spite of that I am not writing a whole lot of new songs right now. I have one brewing that is due in a week for the songwriting group I facilitate locally, however. The prompt is *some kind of poet* and the subtitle to this post is the first line of the song so far. It was the same year that Nixon resigned. I can’t share it as a song yet but just a bit of verse so far. I love the concept and where it’s going though and if you’ve read The Woman Without a Voice you would recognize the ideas from that story.
In the meantime, here’s a short clip from an open mic I went to in Albq at Dawn Patrol Coffee on Copper in Knob Hill they do on Tuesday nights. Thank you very much, Jill, for snapping the pics and clips for me!!
And, finally…save the date y’all!! I’ve got two shows coming up towards the end of April. The first one is with Colleen Gino at Box Canyon Brewing in Socorro on April 20 and the 2nd one will be part of Sunday Sessions at The Cap on the Plaza in Socorro on April 28th (the day after my bday so if you’re local, please plan to come celebrate with me!!).
Lastly (which comes after finally, right?!!), you might consider becoming a Sunflower Seed and supporting the growth of my upcoming album project. It’s gonna get all bloomy up in there! Thanks for sticking with me and being here at all.
Happy Equinox, TerriSunflower
it was the same year that Nixon resigned
in my friends bedroom i heard Patsy Cline
her mom sent us down to Blake's 5 and dime
it may not have been such a victimless crime
there was her record and me on cloud nine
I was in love with some kind of poet
mama she drove a shiny ford skyline
before she met dad in an earlier lifetime
stretched out underneath the ponderosa pines
having believed harsh words she’d heard as a child
she'd read every line of Whitman and Wilde
she was the one, that was some kind of poet
